Ladies win the day in the rain

Two of the top seniors’ team in England were relishing the annual pre-season match between Cheshire Senior Men and Cheshire Senior ladies.

It was the first match for the new Captains Tiff Fielden (Hale GC) and Lee Turner (Northenden) and it was staged at Tiff’s home club which has a lovely 9-hole course and excellent clubhouse hospitality for players and officials to enjoy.

After a bright start the weather changed and heavy rain flooded the greens unfortunately causing the match to be abandoned with the scores for the BB Match-play counting for the first nine holes.

It was a close contest and the match scores were Cath Rawthore and Sara Spencer halving their match with Gareth Bradley and Guy Hindle.

Then Jane Burke and Ali Hicks won their match against Richard Stockdale and John Smith four up. Caroline Berry and Tiff Fielden followed this with a two up win over Martin Keates and Chris Mitchelson.

Maureen Richamond and Cathy Day halved with Lee Turner and Dave Nelson.

Mark Hudson and Chris Massey won their match with Carole Ryder and Caroline McGeorge one up but it was not enough to stop the ladies smiling as they won by one point to take the bragging rights.

A very sociable and competitive contest to get the season for both teams off to a good start!
