Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association Bell Cup Final 2023

THE MDLGA Bell Cup competition is one of the oldest and biggest Inter Club Ladies team knock outs in the country featuring teams from within 25 miles of Manchester Town Hall

It has been played for since 1909 when Anson GC were the first winners of the historic and coveted trophies.

This year 84 clubs in the mix with the final at Hazel Grove Golf Club (England Golf’s Club of the year in 2022), the home club of MDLGA 2023 President Maggie Morley.

The teams have battled since early Spring through the knock-out rounds to make the semi-finals and final day.

The four teams through – Davenport, Chapel en le Frith, Harwood and Oldham guaranteed that a new name would go on the trophy as none of them had won it before.

The morning semi-finals saw Davenport 6-1 winners over Harwood and Chapel en le Frith 4/3 winners over Oldham move through into a dramatic final

Maggie Morley said: ”Chapel won 4/3. Two matches went up the 19th. All was decided on the final putt on the 18th. A very exciting. final that went right to the wire!”

The annual match between Cheshire Boys and Cheshire girls is always very competitive and played in great spirit with some super golf and etiquette.

All of these qualities were there in abundance at Bramhall Golf Club who were superb hosts on an excellent day outlining the great work done by CCLGA and CUGC in developing junior golf at all levels.

Both teams and officials were delighted that Bramhall Junior Captain and Cheshire and international junior star Dan Hayes was there to meet up with his old friends from golf.
