The County Ventures into Mixed Golf

The County Ventures into Mixed Golf

The event was staged at the Vale Royal Abbey Golf Club on Sunday 4th October with an inaugural field from 26 Clubs coming from across the entire County.  The format was decided as a Handicap based Greensomes Stableford and was played in idyllic late summer conditions on the demanding Vale Royal layout.  The Course was agreed by all to be in a magnificent condition; the Greens running very true at 10 – 11 on the Stimp Meter, which together with their “subtle yet significant” borrows provided a very real test of nerves at critical moments.  We are most appreciative of Vale Royal Abbey and their staff for providing such a superb facility for the initiation of what we confidently expect to be a permanent fixture in the County Golf Diary.

The standard of play was excellent, with numerous Birdies and an Eagle two on the Par 4 Third Hole from the Bramall Park pairing.  Winners on the day were Andrew Allcock and Fran Kralev from Lymm Golf Club with 41 points; runners up were the pair from the host club, Gill McKenzie and John Kirk Wooldridge with 39 points.  The Presentation was carried out by the County Associations Captain, Marion Scowcroft with the Union President John Roberts for once remaining quietly on the side-lines, also in attendance was the Association President and the Mens/Lady Captains from Vale Royal.   Our thanks go to all the players who contributed to the success of the day, details of the fixture for 2016 will be published in the New Year.  It is anticipated however that an early October date will again be employed to maximise the chances of some decent weather.  Pictures of the day together with the detail results are available on the Union website www.Cheshiregolf.org.uk

Congratulations Cheshire Girls

The annual match between Cheshire Boys and Cheshire girls is always very competitive and played in great spirit with some super golf and etiquette.

All of these qualities were there in abundance at Bramhall Golf Club who were superb hosts on an excellent day outlining the great work done by CCLGA and CUGC in developing junior golf at all levels.

Both teams and officials were delighted that Bramhall Junior Captain and Cheshire and international junior star Dan Hayes was there to meet up with his old friends from golf.
