Esme wins at the double! Cheshire Girls’ Championships

Astbury Golf Club put on its usual impeccable show on and off the course as it hosted the Cheshire Girls Championships.

Apart from a strong wind the players enjoyed a course in its usual superb and challenging condition backed by friendly and helpful staff and members on and off the course and the normal top class organisation by the county officials.

Astbury Lady Captain Estelle Walker was delighted to receive the Cheshire plaque for hosting the competition from Cheshire Girls leader Cathy Day.

Astbury’s Cheshire Girls Captain Eryn Gravett played a big part in prize presentations and off course administration as injury had prevented her from playing.

She received her reward for her efforts being presented with a lovely Cheshire Cat doll from Cathy.

Before the prize presentations Eryn and Cathy both gave well deserved thanks to all who had helped to make this a very special day for Cheshire Girls golf.

On course the early pace was set by Cheshire Schools Girls Champion Esme Graham (Wallasey GC) and her gross round of 78 saw her win the County Championship Trophy, presented by Eryn and she added another trophy to her growing collection by winning the u14 gross prize.

The u16 gross winner was Abbie Cunningham (Lymm GC) 84 and the Handicap winner was Missy Jai Green (Astbury GC) 69

Eve Rice (Caldy GC) won two sets of ball for her ‘Two’s on the fourth and 11th holes.

The 9-hole competition for the young girls starting golf was won by Maun Kirby (Lymm) with 43 from Jessica Corbishley (Hartford) 36.

Maun is looking forward to playing in the USA Kinds World Championships at North Caroline and Pinehurst in the coming weeks.
