Junior Boys and Girls enjoy a close contest at Bramhall

Bramhall Golf Club provided its usual excellent on and off course facilities, support and friendly reception for the eagerly-awaited annual contest between Cheshire Boys and Girls in which the girls have triumphed in recent years.

Back ltr: Missy Green, Emilia Gravett, Naomi Willans, Fallon Plant,
Front ltr: Jess Flynn, Nancy Hodgson, Esme Graham, Chammy Lui.

Back ltr: Dylan Emms, Callum Woolley, Jack Walker, Freddie Wilcock,
Front ltr: Thomas McCann, Jonah Ashworth, Will Furness, Wilf Simcock.

The organisation by Cheshire officials and Bramhall Assistant Professional Liam Burgess had combined to put all of the Cheshire players in the Bramhall Junior Open which was taking place on the same day.

The format for the match was changed into an individual Stableford with the scores added together for an Aggregate score to decide the winning team.

One thing the organisers and home club could not control was the weather which saw the players tee off in steady rain and soon afterwards be called back in due to a thunderstorm with heavy rain.

But the players showed their resilience and desire in resuming action as soon as possible in a contest which ended with the boys winning by 268-263 to end the run of success by the girls with some steady scoring led in at the death by Will Furness (Ringway) 37.

Playing in Will’s group was Nancy Hodgson (Wilmslow) who posted an excellent haul of 40 to be the girls’ leading scorer and also win the Bramhall Junior Open to be presented with the top prize by Liam and Cheshire Girls manager Cathy Day.

Nancy receives her prize with Cathy & Liam

Another great show by Cheshire Juniors of the depth of talent in the county and they received their deserved thanks by former Cheshire President David Durling who was one of the organising officials on the day.
