Marjorie Griffiths has been appointed as the first-ever lady to be the President of the Cheshire Golf. She has just completed a year as the County Vice President in its first year after Unification of Men and Ladies County Unions and has enjoyed Cheshire having one of their best-ever years of success for teams and individuals in regional and national competitions. Marjorie brings a wealth of sporting and administrative experience to her role.
She said: “I am honoured to be invited to be the first Female President of our new County Organisation and like our Board of Directors my main aim is to represent, communicate with and support our 95 Golf Clubs in Cheshire and to attract more women and girls into golf.”
Marjorie outlined her time in sport and golf: “In my early years in sport I was a PE teacher and played County and Midlands Hockey. I have always been keen on all sports and very much a team player. I became a member of Ringway GC in 1984 and started to play and practice more and develop my game and it paid off.
I played for the County Ladies B team and the County Senior Ladies Team winning the Richardson Trophy in 2006. In 2001/2I becoming a County Selector and then the 2010 County Captain. In 2011-2013 I was a Voting Member for EG (2012 Unification of EWGA and EGU)- very interesting times! In 2013 I was the President of Northern Counties and in 2013-2014 Council member at Ringway GC as Chair of Course and in 2022 the Lady Captain at Ringway.
“As well as my golf I am a dog lover and have a rescue Border Collie called Bella. I am a keen walker; gardener and I love the outdoors and nature as well as being a Man United fan. Of all the sports I have played /coached, golf is the most challenging and the most rewarding! The handicapping system allows anyone to play with anyone. The beauty of the game of golf is that club golfers are able to play most of the top courses in the world where they have watched the top professionals in action and very few other sports allow this. I am an enthusiast of the sport and simply want people to try and enjoy golf. I have seen many changes over the past 40 years in the game and with EDI the game is evolving and is becoming more attractive.”
