Avro Captains delighted with their Charity

Avro Captain Steve Jackson and Lady Captain Sylvia Christelow joined forces for their Annual Captain’s Charity to support the MNDA.

They were delighted to present a cheque for £8,008.35 to the MNDA representative Sophie Meadows.

Sylvia said: “For a small club this was a magnificent amount of money raised and our thanks go out to all of the members for their great support of a variety of fund-raising activities over the past year.

“We chose to support the MND because of the recent death from MND of the husband of a previous Lady Captain Aileen Stephenson whose husband Melvyn was also Club Captain.

“The big fund-raiser was the 100-hole Challenge with two men playing 100 holes in a day which had £4,040 donated through a JustGiving page plus Gift Aid.

“Other events included were a monthly Mixed  competition, the 100 club draw, a range of raffles- including a folding chair from the 2025 Masters – (which Rory McIlroy won), sales of ladies clothing, ladies eclectic competitions, bunker fines,  sales of Maple Syrup and Honey donated by a member and putting competitions on Men’s Captain’s Day and the 100-hole Challenge plus a few miscellaneous donations.

“Steve and myself would like to thank everyone who helped raise the fantastic amount which shows what a great community spirit we have in our club.”
