Bramhall Captain’s Drive-in

Bramhall Golf Club’s new officials had an excellent attendance for the annual Captain’s Drive In which features Captain, Lady Captain, Junior Captain and President driving off from the first tee, just outside the clubhouse.

It is a very competitive event with Bramhall professional Scott Parry measuring the length and width of each drive with his high tech equipment.

The members were also involved by paying into a sweepstake to win a prize for a correct choice of the leader with the substantial money raised supporting the Captains’ chosen charities.

Unforunately President Gaz Smith had just had some surgery on his left shoulder and was unfit to take part so at great expense ( a bag of scampi fries and a jar of mixed nuts) he nominated club manager Anthony Herbert, a PGA professional to take his drive for him with total confidence of him winning.

Captain Mike Whelan hit his drive 135 yards 135 yards and 20 yards wide of centre,

Next up was Lady Captain Jean Hindmoor who had her clinical drive of 139 yards just two yards left of centre.

Then Junior Captain Jim Ellis hit a great drive of 234 yards 15 yards left.

Finally on the tee was Anthony who duck-hooked it just 130 yards and 30 yards to the left to the great amusement of the on-looking crowd.

Gaz said : “Anthony had a bad day however as club manager I know he is up there with the best!”
