HESWALL Golf Club provided their usual excellent and challenging course with terrific views across the Dee Estuary as they hosted the Cheshire Foursomes over two rounds. It is 100 years since this championship was first played, when Israel Sidebottom and Sid Potter of Stockport won at Delamere Forest.
Sandiway’s Liam Kettle and Matt Derwent (pictured above) set the early pace with 71, one more than Cheshire Team Players Sam Prince (Ringway) and Paul McFerran (Warrington) with the rest of the field eight shots adrift
Alex Lundy and Michael Downes (The Mere) had the best gross of 72 in round two but the consistent Sandiway duo were only a shot adrift to post the winning gross score of 144 to lead in from Sam Prince and Paul McFerran.
It was a similar story in the nett competition with Liam and Matt top of the shop with 146, seven clear of Sam and Paul with Stockport’s Andrew Mooney and Ross Gregory next in on 154.
