Amazing Aces for Will

Many golfers go throughout their whole career without getting a hole in one.
Now a young Ringway Golf junior Will Furness (pictured) has achieved what could be a county and national record for his age by having two aces on different courses in one week in competitions.
Will, age 11, recently started secondary education at Ashton on Mersey School in Sale having previously attended Springfield Primary School, Sale.
He has already shown his golfing potential by achieving a handicap of 9.4.
His golfing highlights to date include playing at the Champion of Champions World junior Championship in Ireland 2022, winning the annual putting knock out competition at Ringway GC 2023
and making his Cheshire u16’s debut – playing off scratch winning both foursomes and singles matches versus Staffordshire.

Will also enjoyed playing nine holes with Peter Finch for a feature in a Today’s Golfer article for Shotscope.

Will said: “I started lessons aged seven at Styal and my love for the game started then. I slowly started entering competitions and my first full season competing was 2022. I played in regional junior tour competitions, junior opens, team competitions for Ringway including MCJL and BMW events.
I have many people I want to thank including Coaches Norman Marshall (Tommy Fleetwood Academy) and Haydn McCullen (121 coach, PGA Pro at Ashton on Mersey GC).
My Year 6 teacher Mr Stanley and Isobel Parry, the past junior organiser from Ringway GC.
My future aims in golf are to play on the PGA tour and qualify for the Open
My holes in one came just a week apart with the first hole in one in a junior competition on the Styal Academy course-5th hole 133 yards Par 3 using a Ping Prodi G 6 iron in the Par 3 September medal.
My mum, dad and brother all watched as it went in.
The next one came in an adult competition at Ringway on the third hole 147 yards par 3 at Ringway GC, using a Ping Prodi g 7 wood.
It was the Friday Kendy trophy in which all membership categories play.
Along with my playing partners I couldn’t see the hole from the tee and it was members in the group in front that cheered as they saw it go in. I was playing with Ringway Junior Captain Dan Barlow at the time.

My golfing idol is Tommy Fleetwood. I have always loved watching him since watching him in the 2019 British Masters. Since then I have met him a few times at the Tommy Fleetwood Academy at Formby Hall and he is a really nice guy. Also Nick Faldo because he’s won the Masters and The Open Championship multiple times!”
