Fantastic charity effort by Portal Captains

The Captain Davie Thompson and Lady Captain Amy Lester of Portal Golf Club were delighted to present a cheque for £27,910.68  to the representatives of Age UK Cheshire at their club’s AGM.

Davie said: “Amy and myself agreed on the charity as we wanted it to benefit local people and we were able to allocate the funds to specific areas of Age UK Cheshire- eg loneliness and dementia.

“We held social events, a longest day golf challenge where we played four rounds in one day, drinks buggies, raffles, auctions, cake stands etc at our Captains Drive In and individual Captains’ Days.

“We owe a special thanks to all of our generous members who dug deep to support the charity plus everyone who helped make it possible whether they baked cakes, sold raffle tickets or drove a drinks buggy.

“Also a special thanks to Jamie Anton of Macdonalds Hotels for donating two putters, a driver and a golf bag for auction to raise more funds.

“Attending the presentation for Age UK Cheshire were Liam Birchall and Rachel McMullin and they presented us with a piece of artwork created by one of the people they care for.”
