Great Charity Effort at Withington

Withington Golf Club Captain Ben Etherington, Lady Captain Diane Emmett and President Dave Southern combined forces to raise funds for their chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support during their year of office.
They were delighted to welcome Macmillan Relationship Funding Manager Sarah Peet to their club to receive a cheque for £3,739.09 for the charity.
Ben, whose thoughts and comments were supported by Diane and Dave, said: “We chose Macmillan because of their prominence in the lives of each of us and the often unseen work they do to support those directly by cancer.
“This was very prominent in the support they offered to my family when my mum sadly lost her battle 26 years ago.
“Over our year in office numerous fund-raising events, raffles, prize draws and individual private donations including all competition entry fees from Captain’s Days and the season-long nearest the pin competition taking place each week for our members.
“I personally would like to thank Dave and Diane for supporting the charity which meant an awful lot to myself and my family.
”Also all of the members and guests of Withington Golf Club who not only contributed time and money to support the cause but also made the year very enjoyable indeed.”
Sarah added: “It’s thank to the dedication and generosity of people like Ben, Diane and Dave and everyone at Withington GC that we can continue to do whatever it takes for people living with cancer.
“A massive thanks you to them for their amazing fundraising donation which could help to fund a Macmillan nurse for 15 days helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical and emotional support or help to provide 12 people living with cancer a Macmillan grant.
“This can help cover some of the costs of cancer brings such as increased energy and water bills, cost of travel to and from hospital and making home adaptations.”
