Hazel Grove Golf Club Captain Mike Keyworth was delighted with the £10,000 he raised for his chosen charity of Prostate Cancer UK during his year in office.
Mike said: “My father perished from the disease at 74. By the time he sought medical help it was too late and the cancer had spread to his pelvic bones.
“He lasted nine months after diagnosis…. He and I (I was in my 50’s at the time) had no real idea of what it was or the symptoms.
“So it was very close to my heart and to raise awareness at our club has been very satisfying.
“Most club male demographics are in the danger zone.
“My main events for raising the money were a raffle at every function, charity day at our club, a Gents Evening with Howard Clark as speaker and the Captains Drive in.
“I would like to thank all the members and guests who have supported throughout my year, their collective generosity has been breathtaking.
“I also raised enough money for a defibrillator and heated secure bed for our half way house plus another heated secure box for our clubhouse defibrillator which is now located outside so all in all a very rewarding experience.
