Chairman David receives deserved award

David Durling has put in great service and dedication to his golf club Shrigley Hall and to the Cheshire Union of Golf Clubs for many years
He was Cheshire President in Centenary Year 2020 and in recent years has been the CUGC Chairman very involved in Unification and Sustainability as well as county business.
But his talents over the years have not just been spent on golf as he revealed.
David said: “Recently I was honoured to receive The High Sheriff of Cheshire’s Award ‘in recognition of great and valuable services to the community’.
“For almost 25 years now, I have been involved with a charity that organises monthly afternoon teas for old people who live on their own.
“I arrange the hosts who put on the teas and the drivers who drive the old people, and of course, I have to arrange for the guests as well.
“We were at Eddisbury Hall which is the home of Clare Hayward, The High Sheriff of Cheshire, and part way through the afternoon she appeared in her regalia and made the announcement; it was a complete shock to me as she presented the award to me.
“In addition, His Majesty the King invited my wife Dorothy and me to a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, which we attended with great delight and which will give us both great memories.
”Sadly it was very wet, but it was quite an occasion nevertheless. The invitation was also linked to my work with the charity and came via the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire.”
