Nigel Evans OBE is a true legend of golf at his club Sandiway, Cheshire and England Golf.
He was delighted and honoured to be entered into the England Golf Hall of Fame at the England Golf Awards Evening at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester.
The Hall of Fame only began last year and among the early entrants were Peter Allis, Michael Bonallack, Dame Laura Davies, Sir Nick Faldo, Trish Johnson, Luke Donald, Georgia Hall, Gary Wolstenholme MBE and Gerald Micklem.
The latest entrants to the Hall of Fame were announced at the Awards Evening and also inducted as well as Nigel were Harold Hilton, Tony Jacklin. John Jacobs, Angela Uzielli and Mickey Walker.
They were presented with their trophies and a full description of their achievements were given to the appreciative packed house by top sports presenter Mark Chapman.
Nigel has been a member of Sandiway for almost 50 years and is now an honorary member of the club and he also represented Cheshire at all levels.
He has been involved in national golf administration since 1980 becoming a member of the Cheshire Executive and then President.
With the EGU Nigel was on the Executive Committee and Finance Committee from 2002 – 2005 and became a member of the Management Committee in 2005
He was the Board member responsible for National Coaching and Elite Performance from 2005 – 2011.
Nigel was the England Golf Chairman from 2012-2014 and was the driving force behind the England Golf Union and England Women’s Golf Association merger.
He was President of England Golf in 2015 and later awarded an MBE for service to amateur golf.
A well -deserved honour much appreciated by the Cheshire members at the Awards Evening.
