Life Members begin 60th anniversary year at Prenton

The Life Membership scheme began in 1965 as a means of generating greater engagement with the county’s clubs. Today we have over 1000 “Lifers” including our first ladies who have joined since unification of the CUGC and CCLGA.

Our 7-event 2025 calendar began on Wednesday 23rd April at Prenton Golf Club. Prenton are great supporters of the county and always make us extremely welcome. Our members enjoyed excellent hospitality and found a course that was in superb condition, proving a good test for the 148 Lifers who took part.

We’ve had quite a number of new members over the winter and 11 of them made debuts at Prenton, with three pairs making it into the prizes.

Early leaders were debutants Billy Blackmore and Peter Ward from Runcorn GC with a very respectable 44 points. But is was another Runcorn pair, John Coxon and Carl Smith, no strangers to the winners circle, who took first place with an excellent 45 points. Andrew Fairhurst (Widnes) and David Swift (Vicars Cross) were third, with Pete Saddington and Rob Booth (Helsby), both making debuts, fourth

Peter Ward and Billy Blackmore
Making their debuts, Cleve McCurdy, Cheshire Golf Chairman, and Charles Keirl, both from Ringway GC

Nearest the pin winner, played on 16th hole, was Peter Ward who collects a dozen balls.
