Janet up for the job at Marple GC

Marple Golf Club Lady Captain Janet Newton (Pictured) is delighted to have been chosen for her new role at her beloved club.

Janet said: “Marple Golf Club is a wonderful, friendly and inclusive club.

“We have a thriving and growing Ladies Section and a top class green keeper and team who have produced and maintained a course of the highest quality- It is simply the best!

“I have been a member of the club for four and a half years after retiring as a School Business Manager at a local primary school.

“My current handicap is 33.3 and my best was 31.6 and I play three to four times a week  and have no other hobbies as I spend a lot of time looking after my year-old granddaughter and I have supported Manchester City all of my life.

“My favourite hole at Marple is the 15th as it where I got my first-ever birdie!

“My other favourite local course is New Mills for the views and also El Rompido in Spain.

“My chosen charity to support in my year of office is ‘Tommys’ who support families suffering miscarriage and baby loss and research into possible causes.

“Being Lady Captain and winning my first ‘major’ board competition last year are my own personal golfing highlights and if I could chose three players to join me in a four-ball they would be my son Danny, my husband Richard and my late father Lou Christian.
