Jake’s golfing ambitions

JAKE Hibbert, the new Cheshire Champion, is very happy with his progress in golf, both on and off the course as he eventually looks to join the professional ranks.

Jake, 21 and a member of Delamere Forest GC, won a hard-fought county championship at Eaton GC to add to his county match-play title which he won at Sandiway in 2021.

He is currently studying business management at FAU (Florida Atlantic University) in Boca Raton, Florida.

Jake said: “I started playing golf at eight years old where both of my grandads taught me how to play.

“I started to compete in tournaments when I was 12-13 and really enjoyed them and at 15 I decided that golf was something I wanted to pursue and compete in.

“I was then part of the England regional squad at 16 which was a great experience for me and I was also studying at Myerscough University for two years which further helped me to develop my golf whilst also staying in education.

“After Myerscough I wanted to go to America to do a golf scholarship which I am now enjoying at FAU.

“My golfing highlights along the way include winning both the Cheshire stroke-play and match-play championships whilst also having some solid finishes at the Seabest Invitational , the Brabazon Trophy and the St Andrews Links Trophy in 2022.

“I would like to thank my mum, dad and brother for all the support they have given me over the years both financially and personally.

“They always support me when things are difficult and give me the confidence to keep going to get better.

“I would also like to thank my girl friend Lea Zeitler, who caddied for me in the Cheshire Championships and also help me carry the three trophies I won on the day!

“She gives me great support both on and off the course.

“My plan is to continue with my education at FAU and get my bachelor degree and then turn professional when I feel the time is right and join my long-time golfing idol Rory McIlroy on tour!
