Hoylake awaits the county’s best players

Winning a County Championship is something very special. Even more special is winning at the historic Royal Liverpool Golf Club at Hoylake.

This year will be the 98th staging of the County Championship. Royal Liverpool have hosted it on 12 occasions and these have produced some notable winners:

      • 2015 – Heggarty, T

      • 2005 – Horsey, D

      • 1994 – Hodgson, JS

      • 1985 – Briggs, NW

      • 1976 – Biggs, RA

      • 1969 – Jones, DP

      • 1965 – Pearson, MJ

      • 1959 – Jones, JT

      • 1952 – Shone, DHL

      • 1948 – Timmis, CW

      • 1946 – Timmis, CW

      • 1926 – Sutton, W

Five of the winners are from the host club: Heggarty, Biggs, Pearson, Shone and Timmis (twice). The most recent winner, Tom Heggarty, fully utilised his local knowledge, being not only an RLGC member but also the son of the then head professional John Heggarty.

Below is a gallery of some of the above past winners at Hoylake:

You can see profiles of several of these past winners in the county archive: https://cheshire-golf100.org.uk/players.php

We will have a full field of 102 players this year and they will tackle the course from the Open Championship tees in what will be a very stern test indeed. If you wish to see the county’s best, then you’ll be more than welcome on June 20th, 21st and 22nd.

Who will be holding the coveted trophy in 2024?
