Beech Signs out in style at Delamere

Delamere Forest Golf Club is the established home of the Cheshire Boys Championship, having hosted it every year since 1984. The 61st Championship took place on Friday 8th August and Delamere once again provided a top class and challenging course, excellent hospitality and a warm and friendly welcome led by manager Adam Moule, staff and members.

There were over 70 players in the field and after the morning session Cheshire team stars Harry Kell (Sandiway) and Laurent Beech (Eaton) led with -4 gross. It left them three clear of Joseph Dodd-Berry (Eastham Lodge), Josh Hockenhull (Prestbury) and Cheshire Boys Captain Cole Self (Ringway).

Harry Kell was four under for his afternoon round stood on the 18th tee. A horrible “poached egg” lie in the greenside bunker, however, led to a double bogey which left the door open for Laurent to clinch the title with another excellent 68 for an 8-under total of 136. Laurent’s name will be added to the club’s special honours board for this championship. Josh Hockenhull was in third spot on +2 from Dean Lenehan (Styal) +3.

The best net score for the two rounds was posted by Leo Murphy (Sandiway) -13 ahead of Alfie Ogden (Wallasey) -8 and Harry Kell -6.

Laurent and Cheshire Golf President John Heggarty both gave deserving praise to all at Delamere Forest GC and the Cheshire Officials for making this another special day of golf for Cheshire and to the players for their excellent golf and exemplary conduct on an off the course.

John presented Delamere Forest Lady Captain Maria Hudson with a Cheshire plaque in appreciation of the club again hosting the event.

Cheshire’s Boys team has had a wealth of talent in recent years, resulting in a Northern Counties League win and back-to-back Four Counties Junior Tournament wins. This was the final Boys Championship for three of our leading players. Laurent Beech, already established in the men’s category having played for the men’s team and also having won the individual prize at the Men’s Northern Counties Qualifying just 2 days previously. He flies out to Texas to begin a golf scholarship shortly. Lucas Kuiper, Ben Buchanan, Aaron Cullen, Michael Collis, Shinil Balakrishnan, Tom Lever and Spencer Davies also move into the adult category. We wish them well.
