New President for Manchester and District Ladies

The Manchester and District Ladies Golf Association (MDLGA) was founded in 1902 and provides competitions for clubs within a 25-mile radius of Manchester Town Hall during the summer months.

The MDLGA has a new President each year, alternating between clubs North and South of Manchester Town Hall.

This year’s President is Sue Moult (Shaw Hill GC) who brings a wide variety of experience of playing and serving in administrative roles over her years in golf.

Sue said: “I am delighted and honoured to take on the role as MDLGA President in 2026.

“I would like to thank the Past Presidents for electing me and to all the members of the committee for their knowledge, views, wisdom and giving up their time to attend committee meetings and run our competitions.

“Also to Lancashire Golf who have given me so many opportunities to raise my own knowledge of the game and to meet a very diverse group of people who all have one thing in common, the love of the game and to countless professionals who have tried to make me a better player.

“Finally to all of the ladies and gentlemen I have played with over the years on many different courses- it has been great fun.

Background

“My own golf began in the mid 1980’s at Disley GC  before moving to West Lancs GC then Shaw Hill, where I have been a member for over 30 years playing on their teams and serving in a variety of roles including Lady Captain in 2000 with plenty of happy memories.

“I joined what was the Lancashire Ladies County Golf Association (LLCGA)  in 2019 and served in a variety of roles including the Lancashire Unification  committee.

“I have also been involved with several England Golf competitions in the North West with a highlight being  Lancashire Ladies winning the Northern Counties Week at Lancaster in 2024.

“Another highlight was being a County referee for the Simpson Cup at Royal Lytham and St Annes in 2023 between contestants from the USA and the UK who have all served in the armed forces and have been disabled in some way as a result of their work.

“it was a truly uplifting experience, played with great camaraderie and seeing the players overcame their disabilities and enjoy our great sport.

“I recently joined Shaw Hill’s course consultancy group using my knowledge from doing course rating and I am also I am a keen gardener!

“I am also part of the club’s unification group as we look to unify the club in 2027.

“I joined the MDLGA committee in 2019 assisting with running the Annual Team event and running it the following year and in late 2021 I was asked to take over the running of the Bunty Booth competition, which I have continued to do for the past four years and will continue to do in my President’s year.

“I am greatly looking forward to 2026, meeting more of our members, visiting more of our clubs and carrying on the proud traditions of MDLGA.

“Whilst we have 80+ clubs as members I would like to explore the possibility of more clubs joining providing they are within a 25-mile radius of Manchester Town Hall.”
