Ladies West Cheshire Shield Finals

The West Cheshire Shield Finals were held in a lovely setting offered by Pryors Hayes GC on Mon 1 Sept. The course had definitely greened up after many weeks of drought and provided a good test for the semi-final winners who had qualified at Chester GC two weeks earlier.

In a repeat of last years final Delamere A and Helsby A led the field off in rather grey conditions. An expectant crowd of supporters gathered at the 15th green as the players reached the final few match holes. Delamere managed to reverse the outcome becoming 2025 West Shield winners (pictured above).

The B team final featured two clubs who had not seen their name on a B team trophy for 20 years or more. Caldy and Chester were delighted to put their club’s name back on some silverware with Chester eventual West Cheshire B Winners. It has to be said that Chester celebrated in style with a spectacular dousing of the team involving the whole bottle of fizz without a drop being consumed.

The C teams took the tee at 11am and before too long the sun appeared and with it the colourful team colours of Carden Park C in deep turquoise and Heswall C in vibrant pink could be clearly seen. This match was tight and it was a while before Carden managed to convert a 3-2 lead to get the 4th win to lift the C team Shield Plate Trophy.

Congratulations to all teams who showed great spirit and grace whether victors or not.
They look forward to testing their skills against the winners of East Cheshire Shield finals in early October.
The Business Ladies finals between Eaton and Upton takes place on Sun 14th Sept at Heswall GC.

West Cheshire Percival Trophy Foursomes Tournament

Traditionally the semi-finals and finals of this West Cheshire tournament are played in one day and this years hosts were Caldy GC providing a rigorous test for the 4 competing teams. The morning round saw Sandiway beat Chester and Vicars Cross beat Portal. Those gaining an early victory had a more leisurely lunch before the Finals in the afternoon and thankfully the breeze coming down the Dee estuary wasn’t too fierce.
Vicars Cross won the first match before the second pairing levelled for Sandiway. The deciding match went to the 18th green where Sandiway secured victory and lifted the Percival Trophy.
