Teeing off at 11.30am and with the weather looking wet this afternoon Cheshire Golfer and leader - Richard Baird has it all to play for. The Championship has been dominated recently by Welsh international senior golfer Neil Roderick, who successfully defended the title in 2025 and entered 2026 as one of the players to watch. It's going to be a fascinating day at Aberdovey!

A splendid day at Eaglescliffe today where Cheshire Women drew their match and came second in the final standings. Well done all! It all came down to the very last match and the very last hole. Cheshire managed a 2.5–2.5 draw against Lancashire. Yorkshire won 5–0 against Cumbria, which means they take first place, and Cheshire finish second - just ahead of Lancashire. The great news is that the North has two qualifying spots this year, so Cheshire are through to the finals in July! A fantastic effort from everyone involved. All absolutely chuffed with that result! County Match Week is effectively the highest level of amateur county team golf for women in England, below only the national championships and elite England squads. For Cheshire, it is one of the most important team events of the year. In the North Region, six counties compete: • Cheshire • Cumbria • Durham • Lancashire • Northumberland • Yorkshire The event is played over three days and rotates around the counties. Eaglescliffe Golf Club, host venue for the 2026 Women's North Region County Match Week, is a classic James Braid design dating from 1928, later enhanced by Henry Cotton with the addition of four holes in 1968. An interesting historical fact: Eaglescliffe hosted an exhibition match in 1933 between Walter Hagen and Percy Alliss, with Hagen shooting 74 to Alliss's 78.

Cheshire ladies hold the narrowest of leads going into the final day of County Match Week today at @eaglescliffegolf Let's hope for a return to something like summer weather after yesterday's hail storm. Good luck to the team who are teeing it up against Lancashire at 08.15! You can follow the progress here: https://www.pumasoftware.co.uk/CMW/DailyResults
