Boys v Senior Men at Northenden

Northenden Golf Club showed how well it has recovered from last year’s horrendous floods providing an excellent course and clubhouse for some of the county’s stars to enjoy in the annual Seniors v Boys match.

The boys fielded an Under-17 team to test the skills of the upcoming boys in the squad and they showed the depth in talent at this level with a comfortable 7.5-4.5 win in the 12 singles matches against a strong seniors team led by Captain Lee Turner on his own Northenden course.

They boys showed their intent as they raced into a 2-0 lead with wins for Jack Barnes (Romiley) one up and Jack Tennant (Disley) 3/1.

Lee Turner then reduced the arrears with a one up win before the boys hit top form to establish a big lead.

Bobby Moore (Houldsworth) halved with Neil Hickson (Ringway) and after Austin Eastwod (Caldy) had beaten Mark Hudson (Stockport) 2/1 there was a derby draw between Harvey Taylor and Iain Bartholomew (Prestbury)

Victory was confirmed for the boys with wins for Will Furness (Ringway) 2/1, Freddie Wilcock (Royal Liverpool) 3/2 and Jonah Ashworth (Delamere Forest) 4/3 and a half from Harry Irvine (Caldy) with Rob Reid (Crewe)

The Seniors picked up two consolation points with wins for Chris Turner (Portal) 2/1 and Tony Collinson (Reddish Vale) 3/1.

A great day of good quality golf played in terrific spirit with sportsmanship at the highest level.
